Seeing the big picture goal and feeling as if it's 1000 steps away (and you're on step 18) can be extremely daunting at times. Tackling each day with vigor, gusto and motivation is a great thought, but practicing it - living it?? That can be tough.
This quote, "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us", is a great reminder that none of us can really know exactly how much time we have left to live our lives to their fullest potential. When I say our lives, I mean YOUR life. Don't worry about someone else's time, goals or achievements. What are you doing right here, right now and for the rest of today to make what you want out of life happen?
- Getting an extra run in?
- Doing that house project you've been putting off?
- Teaching your kiddo to stand up for themselves?
A number of us as athletes can sometimes only see goals in the way of achievements or successes. What about the set backs along the way? What about the days and weeks that went like complete sh*t ?? If you'll notice, I'm not saying "failures" here. Why? Failure isn't real, unless YOU make it real. Anytime something goes wrong, it's a chance to learn, grow, overcome, adapt and try again (not necessarily in that order).
With today's time that's left in front of you - what will you focus on that enriches your life and the lives of the people closest to you? Forget about long term goals, forget about hitting certain marks or milestones - make what you're doing now and today matter!
Elite Tip :: Remember that every experience, no matter how painful or wonderful, is perceived in your mind. One person's tough day (a sprint distance triathlon as an example) could be another person's absolute favorite race. Create a mantra that allows you to remember this when dealing with others and yourself. Be kind.
